Heritage Volunteers have completed a project helping Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum to preserve its collection of historic costume and textiles. The collection, which consists of over 300 items, has been preserved by Heritage Volunteers from the Leamington branch of NADFAS who are a valuable asset to Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum. It took eighteen months. The HVs condition checked the textiles and packed them in conservation materials. They learnt specialist handling and packing techniques from a conservator and how to reduce the risks facing textiles from light, humidity and insect attack.
'We are delighted with the work NADFAS have done for us,' says the Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum’s Senior Curatorial Officer Nicky McIntosh.
The project has been supported by the Friends of Leamington Art Gallery who funded training and conservation materials.
