Young Arts Projects
Young Arts Projects are arts related activities sponsored or organised by Societies for individuals or a number of young people.
In 2009 over £168,000 was given to various arts projects throughout the country, involving over 18,000 children and young people. 75% of all NADFAS Societies were involved.
There is no set format for Young Arts Projects. Each can differ according to local circumstances, needs and facilities and also the funds available from the Society and other organisations. A Society's involvement may be anything from sponsorship to hands-on organisation. Many involve partnerships with other local and national bodies. Experience has shown that even a small grant can make a big difference.
Projects cover a wide range of activities and may benefit individuals or any number of children. They include:
- Artists in residence
- Art lectures for students
- Funding visits to art galleries and museums
- Art exhibitions for young artists
- Special equipment purchases
- Hands on workshops in the holidays
- Local Arts Week events
- Bursaries for individual students
- Sponsorship for craft apprentices
How to Start a Young Arts Project
Projects are run in partnership with schools, colleges, museums, galleries or similar organizations. Contacts may be made through personal knowledge of the school or college, through the LEA Arts Development Advisor/Organiser/Inspector, the Parent Teachers Association, and the education officers at galleries, museums and similar organisations.
Project Funding
Societies raise additional funds towards projects from other local, regional and national funding sources.
