Missing window found

The window in Essex by Burne Jones.
This window by Edward Burne-Jones in a small church in Essex was originally installed in a school on the South Coast which burnt down in 1939 and was never rebuilt, the fate of the Burne-Jones window remaining unknown. Persistent research by church recorders uncovered the story of how it had arrived in Essex. The name William Kirkpatrick, which appears on the dedication at the foot of the window, was found in one of the school’s concert programmes. It was assumed that he had acquired the window after the school closure and later it was discovered that William Kirkpatrick had indeed lived in the Essex village during the war to escape the Blitz.

The window in Sparsholt church by John Henry Dearle

The window in Sparsholt church is by John Henry Dearle working for the firm of Morris & Co. It shows clearly how the designs of Burne-Jones, who was a founder member of the firm headed by William Morris, continued to be re-used by later designers.
